Branching Out With A Longer Run

by Fit Dad on May 29, 2009

Hi, Fit Dad here,

I had a day off yesterday after my 50 minute fat burning run on Wednesday. I’m finding that thinking of my efforts in terms of being fat burning is helping me to stay in the right frame of mind. I’m still dead keen to lose the fat from my midsection (and everywhere else) and I’m in it for the long term so I have to set a decent mental attitude.

I’ve discovered a new longer run around the forest. It takes me around 40 minutes to do but I can extend the run by putting in some diversions. I’ve had a bit of a problem with the run since I found it, in so much as in places, it’s overgrown with low hanging tree branches. I suppose I could view it as a challenge to duck and weave my way through but on wet days it’s a real pain and there’s a danger of injury. Besides, it’s not what I want to be doing. It’s hard enough just to keep going without adding too much extra difficulty.

So this morning I spent two hours walking the run lopping branches and beating back some of the undergrowth. In itself it was a good work out for shoulders, arms and chest so I’m sure I burnt a few calories.

After that I had to go out shopping for a birthday and missed having my lunch at midday. By the time I;d finished around 1.30pm I was pretty hungry considering I hadn’t eaten since breakfast, but I knew I couldn’t put in an afternoon run without eating. As a compromise I ate very light indeed and made up the calories after the run by eating a banana and a handful of raisins (even though I wouldn’t normally have an afternoon snack).

The good thing to come of eating light was being able to exercise only 45 minutes after eating.

I put in a decent 40 minutes around the forest. My earlier efforts were well worth it.

Tomorrow is weigh in day. I expect to have lost some weight, hopefully I’ll have lost 2lbs.

Be healthy!
