Fat Burning Saturday Sunday Monday

by Fit Dad on June 16, 2009

Hi,

Since my Lose The Fat 7 post on Saturday I’ve continued to burn the fat with some great runs. They didn’t necessarily feel great at the time but I feel good for it now.

On Saturday I did 50 minutes cross country, on Sunday I did another 50 minute cross country, then on Monday (yesterday) I managed a 55 minute run.

My motivation with the running is coming from some strange places. I have the usual motivations like to live longer and to look better but the thing that seems to spur me on at the moment is anger and frustration. There’s something of an inequity in my personal life that’s driving me hard. You know, a sort of “F*CK YOU” attitude.

It’s probably not a good way of thinking but it gets me motivated to start exercising and sometimes keeps me going when I want to quit. I think this is part of the reason I’m doing longer runs than perhaps I need to do. As I’ve mentioned before, I think a 40 minute run is ideal and anywhere up to 50 minutes is something of a bonus, beyond that I’m likely not doing myself too many favours physically as well as falling foul fromring the Law of Diminishing Returns.

On Monday I would have gone on beyond the 55 minutes (a run motivated by the unwelcome presence of an uninvited guest) but for the fact I was developing a blister on the arch of my right foot. I made a good decision in stopping when I did.

The same motivational technique is working with my diet too. When I’m about to overeat I remind myself that I’m determined to show certain people what I’m made of thus averting the overeating.

The great news is I’m starting to be able to move away from the negative emotions fairly quickly and replace them with the positive aspects of what I’m trying to achieve.

It’s working for me, so I’ll roll with it for now.

When I went out for my run in the forest on Monday I deliberately got myself lost. It added some new interest to the running and kept it fresh and challenging. I may try and do that more often.

I’ve also spent some time on Google maps plotting a five mile road run – again with the idea of mixing things up and keeping them fresh. I’m looking forward to running the 5 mile circuit, I just need the opportunity to present itself.

I’m doing really well this week and I’m looking forward to the weigh-in and measurements on Saturday. I’m hoping to see another 2lb drop.

That’s all for now.

Be healthy.
